Why free? Mainly because we can, but we do have a better reason. When this project was started we did not know of any other service offering inexpensive sms service for groups -- and we looked hard. The reason we looked so hard is that as a non-profit youth ministry there is not genreally extra money floating around. We started this as a response to a need to communicate to a group of Jr. High schoolers at a new church in lincoln, CA . These kids already are comfortable using SMS messaging, in fact they use it a lot! We wanted to be able to reach them with updated information and without having to contact everyone using a phone tree. We thought about email but most of the kids did not check email on a daily basis. They do always have there cell phones with them!. The perfect application is to be able to SMS text everyone. We looked into services available and found that it was very expensive! These companies charge a monthly fee plus a per message fee - ouch! The fees ranged from .03 to $0.05 per message plus $100/month.
We wanted to send out about 3000 messages a month and the fees added up quick! So - since we have access to a highly technical staff we decided to look into a better solution. It wasn't easy but we found it - Totally 100% FREE group text messaging. Not only that we can use and share this technology with other youth ministry teams.

Features of our Free SMS Group Messaging Service
- Use a short code phone number DOTORG (368674) to send messages to your group from your cell phone
- Text messages to the que to be sent to your group at a later time
- Members can subscribe to your group by sending a message to your unique list name. The text message "buzz411 add" sent to 368674 will add you to the buzz411 sms list.
- Members can opt out of your list
- Members can retrieve previous messages by sending a text like "buzz411 messages" to 368674
- You will choose your own unique group list identifier
- You can set up more than one adminstrator with permission to send messages to your group
- You can create as many groups as you like
